(Lei)

(Her)
I went crazy.
What am I doing? I really lost my mind.
He hasn’t talked to me since yesterday. My heart is bursting out of my chest, I don’t know what to do. I toss and turn in my bed recalling that moment as if I were watching a movie and after a few seconds I close my eyes hoping that the same scene disappears from my mind as if it never truly happened.
Yesterday my aunt and uncle from Geneva came to visit. They were supposed to be my guardians but practically they used to come and see me once every two weeks just to make sure I hadn’t killed anyone yet or that I hadn’t caused some disaster in the ancient palace where I lodged forcibly.
Like I said, uncles. So, we had lunch with the whole family on the porch. My mother asked me why I've been looking so quiet and shy for quite a while, she noticed I lost weight. While she was saying that I cast a furtive glance at you, but as usual, you looked away pouring yourself another glass of wine. At times like this when you look so indifferent I feel that an uncontrollable flow of violent rage makes its way inside me. It seems you want to avoid me at all costs, always trying not to meet my eyes and allowing no opportunity for dialogue.
I suddenly lost my appetite and couldn't eat anything more. My stomach went in knots in a grip of irrational irritation and nervous tension. Perhaps at that point my mother noticed something, perhaps the electricity around my body must have become so much tangible that she stroked my arm and asked me to go make the coffee. I got up, relieved by that request and I headed quickly into the kitchen.
Dammit. Why do you cause such mess into my soul? In fact I had no real reason to be angry, I just felt ignored by you. I went over to the sink and started to make coffee with the big Neapolitan coffee pot that I have learned to use recently.
My throat was dry, still mulling over the unspoken words and the unrequited gazes, so standing with my back to the door, I took a glass and poured myself some water directly from the tap. I had just started drinking when I heard someone calling my name. It was his voice, unexpected and deep, unmistakable. The surprise made me jump and the glass slipped from my hand crashing at my feet and drenching me with water and broken glass. He approached fast and told me not to move in order not to get harmed, I took his request as another criticism to my clumsiness, a subtle confirmation that I haven’t lost my natural attitude for getting into trouble. In a burst of pride I exclaimed - "You don’t have to protect me from everything!". I had time to see his quizzical frown before I stooped down to the floor to pick up the glass pieces. Actually I have to admit I’m very clumsy because it was enough to take a piece of glass on the wrong side to make me a nice cut on the index finger.
Blood never scared me, I remember that as a kid I used to pretend being a nurse for my little friends when they would hurt falling on the floor or climbing on stone walls. But my blood, is a completely different story. It’s like seeing the most intimate part of yourself coming out in a stream on which you have no control, such as seeing the soul escaping from the body and this causes a sudden drop in my blood pressure, resulting in fainting every time. I think you must have seen me turning white and sit on the floor while you were trying to stop the blood flow with a towel. I could hear you calling my name and caressing my face, worried.
I heard you saying - "It's nothing, don’t worry, it's just a small cut." Don’t worry? How could I not worry if I finally feel your hand on my face? I opened my eyes and again, that abyss opened in front of me, the same way it happened a few days before but very much closer this time. I don’t know if it was the fear, the anger or that mixture of emotions all together that have been bubbling inside me for days but I finally felt that the tight feeling in my chest dissolved at once and I burst into tears, relieved.
I don’t know if you've sensed my mood or if it was just some tenderness what led you to abandon your shield of coldness and cautious distance and make you hold me in your arms, keeping me tightly to your warm and reassuring body. I could feel the accelerated beating of your heart and as soon as the tears stopped flowing, I moved away from your face and stared you in the eyes. This time you didn’t look away, I kept you tied to me with an invisible bond, the one that the magnet creates with the iron. You started touching my face to wipe off the tears, I moved closer enough to shorten the distance between us and, slowly, I touched your lips with mine. You stayed still, paralyzed, as trapped in a stoning spell but you didn’t move away, maybe you couldn’t. Then I did it again, with no hesitation this time, while the jersey dress slipped off my shoulders. One of my hands was still bleeding a bit while the other was running through your hair. We didn’t care about the broken glass around us or our clothes made wet by the water on the floor. It wasn’t just a kiss, it was a meeting, a succession of beats and cut off breaths. At the beginning when I pressed my mouth on yours I felt you shaking as if you were asking to yourself what the hell was going on, but then something has melted inside you, as if someone had given you permission to let it go so you took my face in your hands and that shy kiss became wet and deep.
"Guys! What happened to the coffee? " - Mom called us from outside. We suddenly stopped and I was attacked by anxiety. Did it really happened? Only two seconds ago? In your hazel eyes I read a myriad of feelings, as if you had just realized that you’d done something terrible. You took off your hands from my body and you stood up, in shock. Before you rapidly walked upstairs I noticed two droplets of blood on your shirt. My blood on you, the same blood that binds us and that is the cause of this sick insomnia of mine, the nightmare I have lost you or worse, that I could never have you.
I went crazy.
